The First People in the Avanersuaq/Thule Region is an archaeological book analysing the process of the pioneering Paleo-Inuit societies that migrated into High Arctic Northwest Greenland between 2500 BC and 1400 AD. The Avanersuaq/Thule region constitutes a biologically rich High Arctic landscape and the gateway to Greenland. Archaeological fieldwork demonstrates that the region has had many occupations and reoccupations of groups of Paleo-Inuit that lived and travelled in the area. Some of these groups came from the central Canadian Arctic. Some of the groups remained in the area and continued further into North and West Greenland, while others travelled from Greenland into Quttinirpaaq/Ellesmere Island. This book presents the first comprehensive analysis of recorded Paleo-Inuit sites in the Avanersuaq/Thule region and the first study comparing these sites with Paleo-Inuit sites in Quttinirpaaq/Ellesmere Island, Canada.
